Introduction

I don’t really like law, because I’m stupid. So, I figured, why not just write a blog? Also, I recently got heartbroken and have had no energy to do much, so this might be a good way to do it.

I just found out that in Estonia it’s a crime to walk without a reflector, and you can be fined 40 euros. In Moldova, I never did this, and I never saw anyone using them. This showed the idea of Ignorantia juris non excusat, ignorance of the law is no excuse.

Intellectual Property

When we talked about Intellectual Property during our online lecture, I realized how unprepared I was. I have no idea about licensing, copyright, or how patents work. Fortunately, our lecturer, Kaido Kikkas, gave clear examples that differentiated each concept and helped me avoid getting “my pants pulled down” by making mistakes.

I knew this was important because every time I open my GitHub page or create a new repository, I see it: licensing. Until now, I’ve either left it empty or used the MIT license, which is generally easier to work with, if someone doesn’t want to use my open-source project, they don’t have to.

Conclusion

After this lecture, I’m thinking I should use the GPL license more often. I really love free and open-source software, and I dislike being forced to use technologies that I can’t fully push it to the maximum.

This time I got answered a question I would probably never have bothered to solve on my own.

Example of my poor way to license:
