Introduction
Another day, another blog post!
I’m not much of a gamer to really fit into this group. The only games I’ve played seriously were stealth titles like Metal Gear Solid or horror games such as Silent Hill. Still, since I got a free pass, I thought I might as well go and see what’s up!
What was interesting? ITUK offered free coffee, ice cream, and even SNES games to play. My friend Sass hosted the Buckshot Roulette tournament, Henrik absolutely PWNED me in FC 25, and there were plenty of free stickers and small accessories to collect.
There were a lot of games to try out!
Nostalgia and how it reminded me of SPEAIT
When I was around seven years old, I really loved Counter-Strike 1.6, so I was glad to see there was a LAN hosted near the student housing. I haven’t played it in such a long time, but really, I still managed to outscore others from time to time (modest, of course!)
So, why is this relevant to SPEAIT?
I remembered one of our lectures where we talked about online communication and the four main gamer types: Achievers, Explorers, Socializers, and Killers. At first, I thought everyone would be a “Killer,” since we were playing de_dust2, everyone had an AWP, and it was doomed to have plenty of teabagging going on. As such, the main idea of a Killer type is to be motivated by powergaming and to be the best in the leaderboard.
Surprisingly, though, most people turned out to be Socializers. Everyone helped each other throughout the game — some had the wrong configs (couldn’t defuse the bomb, jump, or change their crosshair), and for others, it was their first time playing. Even at the end, everyone exclaimed “GG,” which showed how much people cared about being friendly and having a good time.
Conclusion
It was a wonderful experience — I got to meet new people, help Sass promote the Buckshot Roulette tournament, and just enjoy a fun and supportive environment.
Maybe I’ll be back for more. Who knows?
